Community, not just events.

A space for people who want to learn, practise, contribute, and connect through flow arts in Western Australia.

Floasis is a volunteer-led community — not a ticketed events business. People show up to share props, swap skills, help run jams, and look after each other. You do not need to perform to belong here.

What you'll find here

Floasis is a Western Australian volunteer-led community for flow arts — poi, staff, hoop, fans, and the props people love to move with. Some gatherings include fire; we treat that seriously, but fire is not the whole story.

  • Shared practice

Space to spin, drill, ask questions, and learn at your own pace — with people who remember what it felt like to be new.

  • Peer support

Flowmies who swap tips, lend props, cheer attempts, and help newcomers find their feet without pressure.

  • Volunteer energy

People who set up, pack down, welcome others, and keep community nights running — often because they care, not because anyone is paid.

  • Learning culture

Workshops, skill-shares, and informal teaching — when the community has capacity and someone wants to share.

Who is welcome

Beginners, returners, watchers, volunteers, and experienced spinners. You do not need your own props, performance experience, or fire skills to show up.

We ask that people participate in good faith — respect others, follow safety calls, and do not pressure anyone into activities they are not ready for.

Ways to be involved

There is no single “right” way to belong. Many people start by attending and see what fits.

  • Come to a Flow Jam

Relaxed practice circles where you can watch, try props, ask questions, or simply meet people.

  • Help without performing

Welcome newcomers, support setup and pack-down, help with gear, or lend a hand behind the scenes.

  • Volunteer and contribute

Share practical skills — admin, design, logistics, music, teaching, care, or community organising — when you have capacity.

  • Learn and play

Build confidence through practice, workshops, and skill-shares. Progress at your own pace.

  • Support events

Help community nights, fundraisers, or activations come together — when timing and capacity align.

  • Explore performing later

Some members add performer details to their profile if creative opportunities become relevant. That is optional and never required to belong.

Flow Jams and shared practice

Flow Jams are often the easiest way to meet the community. They are usually informal: people share space, swap props, practise moves, and talk through what they are working on.

You might watch for a while, borrow a prop, ask for a tip, or find a corner to drill quietly. There is no expectation to perform for others.

See events for upcoming jams and gatherings when they are listed.

Flowmies and peer support

“Flowmie” is community language for someone in the flow arts world — often used warmly, like a friend who spins. At Floasis it usually means people who share practice time, encouragement, and practical help.

Peer support might look like lending a poi set, spotting a new move, explaining festival etiquette, or simply making space for someone who feels nervous. Nobody has to be an expert to be kind.

Safety, consent, and respect

Floasis gatherings work best when people ask before touching props or people, respect a no, and follow crew directions — especially around fire, fuel, and crowded spaces.

Fire activities carry real risk. They require explicit approval and safety controls for that context. Do not assume you can spin fire at a jam unless organisers have said it is allowed and prepared.

Membership and the member portal

Membership is one way to stay connected and keep your details current — especially if you volunteer, perform, or want event and opportunity updates.

Members create one profile in the portal. You can keep it simple, or add optional performer and insurance details if they become relevant. Joining does not guarantee any role, event spot, or opportunity.

Formal membership steps are still being finalised by the committee. The join form saves your details for follow-up in the meantime.
